After earning consensus first-team All-American honors in 1998 as a junior at Kansas, Pierce was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Boston Celtics. Given what he had accomplished at the collegiate level, Pierce was insulted by being passed over by 9 other teams and cites this circumstance as something that motivated him throughout his career. Despite his disappointment on draft night, things turned out for Pierce. He played 19 NBA seasons, was a 10-time All-Star, and won a championship with the Celtics in 2008.
