In the last several years, Major League Baseball has seen an influx of exciting young talent.  I thought it would be fun to look as some of these players, assess the current value of their cards, and determine if it is prudent to buy, sell, or hold the player based on their potential performance.

Aaron Judge

Club:  New York Yankees

Position: Right Field

Age: 29

Verdict: Sell

One of the preeminent sluggers in the Yankees lineup, Judge burst onto the scene in 2017 when he hit 52 home runs, was American League Rookie of the Year and finished second in the MVP voting.  While Judge hits a ton of home runs and plays for a team with a huge fan following, he did not make it to the Major Leagues until the age of 24 and has only played one full season in his 4-year career.  The unfortunate reality is that Judge does not have enough time left in his career to rack up the counting statistics (wins above replacement, home runs, runs batted in) valued by Hall of Fame voters.  This will negatively influence the long-term value of his cards.  One of Judge’s most popular prospect cards is his 2013 Bowman Chrome.  In a PSA 9, this card carries a price of $70.  Time to cash out on Judge.
