MLB Generation Next (Part 1)
In the last two years, Major League Baseball has seen an influx of exciting young talent. I thought it would be fun to look as some of these players, assess the current value of their cards, and determine if it is prudent to buy, sell, or hold the player based on their potential performance.
Randy Arozarena
Club: Tampa Bay Rays
Position: Left Field
Age: 26
Verdict: Buy
After being drafted by the Saint Louis Cardinals and spending three seasons in their minor league system, Arozarena was traded to Tampa Bay in 2020. He exploded onto the hobby radar during the 2020 postseason. During Tampa’s run to the World Series, Arozarena hit over .300 and clubbed 10 home runs, earning the American League Championship Series MVP along the way. One of Arozerena’s most popular rookie cards is his 2020 Topps, which can be acquired raw on eBay for around $5.
So far in 2021, Arozerena has followed up his scorching 2020 playoff performance with a solid .266 batting average, 10 home runs, and 37 runs batted in. At $5, the Chrome rookie is a low risk play. Tampa should be in the mix for the playoffs again this year, and if Arozarena has a 2021 postseason that in any way resembles his 2020 performance, this card will be a good flip opportunity.
