MLB Generation Next (Part 1)
Gleyber Torres
Club: New York Yankees
Position: Shortstop
Age: 24
Verdict: Buy
After All-Star seasons to start his career in 2018 and 2019, Torres has tailed off in 2020 and 2021. His average and power number are down across the board, and although he was never a Gold Glove candidate, he has regressed defensively as well. As a result, his card values have taken a beating. One of his more popular rookie cards, the 2018 Topps Chrome Update #HTM9, can be purchased raw for around $10. I tend to think that eventually Torres will return to his All-Star form of 2018 and 2019. Plus, he plays for the Yankees, and you have to believe that at some point they will make a World Series run with Torres on the team. When this happens, $10 for his Chrome rookie will look like a steal.
