Potential Baseball Hall of Famers (Part 1 of 3)
Joey Votto
Votto’s career numbers are almost identical to Goldschmidt’s. He is a six-time All-Star, has a Gold Glove, and won the NL MVP in 2010. However, I think Votto is more likely to make the Hall than Goldschmidt. At this stage, Votto has more career home runs and runs batted in. Votto’s lifetime on-base plus slugging percentage is also higher than Goldschmidt’s. The key difference between the two players is age. Votto is 39, and while Goldschmidt won the MVP last season, Votto clearly does not have much left in his tank. Look for 2023 to be Votto’s final year in the Major Leagues. Votto’s first card is in 2002 Bowman Chrome, and it costs $150 in PSA 9 and $400 in PSA 10.
