Regrets, I’ve Had A Few … (Part 1 of 2)
Dick Allen
Allen spent fifteen years in the big leagues playing first base, third base, and outfield chiefly for the Phillies and White Sox. He was an All-Star seven times and won the American League MVP in 1972. Allen is not in Cooperstown, and his fate is like Garvey’s in that his Hall of Fame credentials are evaluated by the 16-person Golden Era Committee. The last time the Committee voted on Allen was 2021, and he fell short of enshrinement by a single vote. Allen’s case will be assessed next in December 2026. Here hoping he makes it at that time. Allen’s rookie card is included in the 1964 Topps set. In PSA 6 condition this card costs $125.
