Larry Doby
Doby played seventeen seasons in the Negro and Major Leagues most notably for Cleveland. He was the second Black player to break baseball’s color barrier and first Black player in the American League. Doby was a nine-time All-Star and was a member of the Cleveland team that won the World Series in 1948. He made the All-Star team nine times and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1998. Although Doby faced many of the same challenges as Jackie Robison, his cards are a fraction of the cost of Jackie’s. Doby’s first Topps card is from 1954, which runs around $200 is PSA 5 condition.
