A Nice Time for Nostalgia (Part 2)
1989 Topps Traded #57T Randy Johnson
PSA 9 eBay Buy It Now Cost: $15
PSA 9 Population: 7,395
“The Big Unit” was one of the most feared pitchers of his era, racking up wins and strikeouts for 22 Major League seasons before retiring in 2009 at age 45. During his career, Johnson was a 10-time All-Star and won 5 Cy Young awards. In his glorious 2002 season, he won the pitching equivalent of the triple crown, leading the National League in wins, earned run average, and strikeouts. Johnson won a World Series championship with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001. His 303 career wins place him fifth in Major League history, and only Nolan Ryan has more strikeouts than Johnson’s total of 4,875.
Both the 1989 Topps and Topps Traded sets contain a version of Johnson’s rookie card. My preference is the traded edition, as it pictures him in his Seattle Mariners jersey, and it has the lower PSA population count.
