Jackie Robinson 1948 Leaf #79

Position: Second Base

Teams: Kansas City Monarchs (1945), Brooklyn Dodgers (1947-1956)

Baseball Hall of Fame: 1962

In April 1947, Robinson broke baseball’s color line, making him not only one of the game’s, but also America’s, most important historical figures.  He also played for the 1955 World Series winning Brooklyn Dodgers, a team that was immortalized by Roger Kahn in one of the best sports books ever written, The Boys of Summer.  Robinson’s jersey number 42 has been retired by every Major League team.  He is the only player to have received this honor.
