A Love Letter to Flea Markets
Buzz Lightyear
Although this blog is mainly devoted to sports collectibles, I wanted to mention non-sports cards here at the end, as you will likely encounter them at some point in your thrift story journey. Most readers already will be on the lookout for Marvel, Star Wars and Garbage Pail Kids as each of these franchises have seen price spikes in the last couple of years. In addition to these, one category that I always buy is Disney. If I can find cards depicting popular Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Uncle Scrooge, Cinderella, Arial, Belle, Elsa), I grab them. There are countless Disney collectors, and key character cards usually sell for at least five dollars online.
One specific example is the Buzz Lightyear card from 1995 Skybox Toy Story. In the last year, I have found five copes of this card priced at a dollar or less. Raw versions of this card typically sell for at least fifteen dollars on eBay.
How about you? Do you enjoy rummage sales? What is your greatest flea market find? I would love to hear from you! Please leave your comments in the section below.
