Gibson was one of the most dominate pitchers of his era, posting over 3,000 strikeouts, 251 wins and a career earned run average of 2.91 over 17 seasons.  In 1961, he recorded an earned run average of 1.12 for the season, a record that still stands and is unlikely to ever be broken.  Gibson was an All-Star 9 times and won 2 World Series with the Saint Louis Cardinals.
