Johnny Unitas 1957 Topps #138

Position: Quarterback

Teams: Baltimore Colts (1956-1972), San Diego Chargers (1973)

Pro Football Hall of Fame: 1979

Unitas won three MVPs and was selected to 10 Pro Bowls during his 18 NFL seasons.  Considered the first modern quarterback, he was a champion with the Colts four times.  The first of these titles came in 1958 against the New York Giants, which was the first overtime game played in NFL history.  The 1958 Championship is often referred to as the “greatest game ever played” and is thought by many to have sparked a rise in the popularity of professional football in the middle part of the 20th century.
